“Do you like stuff like that?” my friend asked when I explained my Christmas present.
Was I weird? My husband had just gifted me a one-night hotel stay at a Springhill Suites. For me. ALL BY MYSELF.
I was so. excited. When I opened the card with a confirmation number inside, I jumped around like a five-year-old and hugged my husband until his eyes bulged.
“Yeah, I can’t wait!” I’d said to my friend. “Just think about this. Me. Netflix. No kids.” Heck, I needed a break.
When it was time for me to wave the family goodbye, get in the car and drive to the hotel, I found myself torn. I wanted to spend some time alone, but to spend it all alone? No sweet children singing? No calf massages from my husband?
I visited my brother and talked books, girls, condos and more. Then I drove to the hotel… while calling every family member I knew to fill the silence.
I picked up some Costa Vida and checked in at the hotel lobby. The front desk agent greeted me like an old friend.
Did I mention I was wearing Addie’s unicorn backpack since I didn’t have anything else to pack my stuff in?
Hopping into the elevator, I started to feel my stress leave. One night, no kids. I could do whatever I wanted! I smiled and did a little jump in the elevator. (Yeah, I’m a child like that. But so are you, so yeah.)
Opening the door to my room, I found it to be a business suite. Woot! Two beds for me. After filming my reaction (video below), I settled into the comfortable bed and took in the latest episode of The Bachelor. Let me just say… I never get tired of these ladies antics, but it’s all starting to sound the same:
“I just hope I get some time with Colton tonight so he can see the real me.”
“I know what Colton wants and he just needs me to take control.”
“She interrupted me! It just looks bad.”
I know these shows are somewhat scripted. But they are beginning to sound really scripted.
And then I started reading Red Rising, a book I borrowed from my brother. It was so good that I ended up reading until 5:30 am. So much for getting *extra* sleep on my night off!
So that was it: The Bachelor and reading a book, but it was AMAZING. I’d been needing a break for a long time and I got to take one doing exactly what I felt like doing. PLUS, I got to eat a tortilla. YUM.
